Friday, June 2

Today, the Senate is sending the debt ceiling legislation that the House of Representatives passed late Wednesday to the White House for President Joe Biden’s signature. The upper chamber passed the bill, which suspends the debt limit through January 2025 in exchange for spending caps, late Thursday.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York had stated the upper chamber would stay in session until the bill passed, saying, “We will keep working until the job is done.” He added, “The vast majority of senators recognize that passing this bill is supremely important.“

Senate leaders were keen to avoid a government default on its obligations, which Treasury Secretary Yellen said could occur as soon as Monday, June 5th. Senator Schumer pledged to get the bill passed without amendment, sending it straight to the president to be signed, instead of back to the House for re-approval.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Majority Leader Schumer and Minority Leader McConnell as they collaborate on upcoming legislation.
  • For wisdom for members of the Senate as they deliberate and debate bills that come to the floor.
  • For Treasury Secretary Yellen to seek God’s guidance as she manages the nation’s financial obligations.
  • For the president and administration officials as they allot funding to federal programs.
