April 18th – Tuesday

Those who feared the Lord spoke with one another. – Malachi 3:16

A strong earthquake struck San Francisco, California, 117 years ago today. The quake, which was caused by a shift of the 275-mile-long San Andreas Fault, measured at almost 8.0 on the Richter scale and sent shock waves that were felt from southern Oregon to Los Angeles. Fires quickly broke out throughout the city. Broken water mains prevented firefighters from extinguishing the blazes, causing firestorms to develop. Approximately 3,000 were killed, and another 20,000 people were housed as refugees in military-style tent camps. In times of natural disaster, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has the responsibility to offer relief and to help people recover from such events. Pray today for the officials and personnel of FEMA to seek God’s direction to properly steward the emergency provisions and resources.

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • For Administrator Deanne Criswell to be led by the Lord as she heads FEMA.
  • For FEMA personnel, first responders, and other officials dealing with recovery efforts in various locations today.
