A 21-year-old member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard was arraigned in a federal courthouse in Boston on Friday for possessing and transmitting highly sensitive documents from the U.S. Defense Department. The more than 3,000 documents, which had apparently been circulating for serval months without being noticed, contain highly-classified intelligence about the Ukraine-Russia war, the Russian paramilitary group Wagner, and other global topics such as China and Iran.

The detained man is reportedly an IT worker or systems operator and is also part of a social media platform known as Discord. It is alleged he uploaded hundreds of pages of sensitive documents, many pertaining to the Ukraine war, on a social media chat line, beginning as far back as January.

At the arraignment, he did not enter a plea. The court ordered him held until Wednesday for a detention hearing. If convicted of the espionage charges, he could face up to 15 years in prison.
