Defense Department Document Leaker Arraigned

The suspect, a member of the Massachusetts National Guard, was arrested Thursday.

A 21-year-old member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard was arraigned in a federal courthouse in Boston on Friday for possessing and transmitting highly sensitive documents from the U.S. Defense Department. The FBI arrested the man the day before in connection with the leak of top secret documents from the Pentagon.

The more than 3,000 documents, which had apparently been circulating for serval months without being noticed, contain highly-classified intelligence about the Ukraine-Russia war, the Russian paramilitary group Wagner, and other global topics such as China and Iran.

The detained man is reportedly an IT worker or systems operator and is also part of a social media platform known as Discord. It is alleged he uploaded hundreds of pages of sensitive documents, many pertaining to the Ukraine war, on a social media chat line, beginning as far back as January.

At the arraignment, he did not enter a plea. The court ordered him held until Wednesday for a detention hearing. If convicted of the espionage charges, he could face up to 15 years in prison.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the federal judge hearing the case to be discerning as evidence is presented.
  • For FBI and DOJ officials as they gather evidence regarding the leak of intelligence documents.
  • For the president and his administration as they respond to the breach in information protocols.
