Senator Schumer Calls for Norfolk Southern CEO to Testify

Majority leader wants the company to tell Congress “what went wrong” in the train crash.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said that Norfolk Southern Railway Chief Executive Alan Shaw should testify before Congress about the events that led up to the hazardous freight train crash in East Palestine, Ohio. The derailment on February 3 led to the burning of chemicals that spewed black smoke and chemicals into the air, water, and earth of the nearby town. Cleanup crews are still working to contain the chemicals, but residents have been kept in the dark about all the potential health risks they could be exposed to.

“The fault for this disaster lies first and foremost with Norfolk Southern,” Senator Schumer said, adding that Shaw “needs to come before the Senate, answer questions under oath, and explain to the American people exactly what went wrong and how they will prevent accidents like this from happening.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Majority Leader Schumer as he oversees proceedings in the Senate.
  • For U.S. officials as they support the remediation and recovery of the people of East Palestine, Ohio.
