Senator Fetterman Recovering in Washington Hospital

Suffering from clinical depression after last year’s stroke.

The office of Senator John Fetterman said on Monday that his mental health is on a better trajectory after he checked himself into a Washington-area hospital earlier in February. He is receiving treatment for clinical depression.

“John is doing well, working with the wonderful doctors, and remains on a path to recovery,” Senator Fetterman’s communications director, Joe Calvello, said, adding that the full recovery process will take a few more weeks. “He is visiting with staff and family daily, and his staff are keeping him updated on Senate business and news.”

The junior senator from Pennsylvania suffered a near-fatal stroke months before he was elected in 2022. His ability to speak was severely impaired, and to this day uses audio-to-text monitors to hear and communicate accurately in everyday life. He has said previously that adjusting to his new work in the Senate while still recovering from his stroke has been difficult.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Senator Fetterman to recover from both the physical and mental conditions caused by last year’s stroke.
  • For wisdom for the health professionals who are caring for the senator in Washington, D.C.
