Health and Wealth

He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.   Psalm 1:3

Easy street, gravy train, the good life, a bed of roses… in other words, the human concept of prosperity! The Bible speaks of prosperity, but it paints a different picture!

A Biblical view of prosperity starts with acknowledging God as Creator, “The Earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein” (Psalm 24:1). As God’s creation, He offers you good things. Happily, His greatest gift also solves your biggest problem, “God so loved the world, He gave his only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

After salvation, some believe God primarily shows His blessing with good health and material wealth, but that is not consistent with what God’s followers seem to have experienced over time. Yes, some have had health and wealth, but others have experienced disability and poverty. The common thread of God’s hand on human life is not necessarily a strong body and unlimited finances, but the presence of strong faith!

The book of Hebrews lists people known and blessed by God. Their shared experience is reflected as, ”Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation” (Hebrews 11:1-2).

Prosperity is larger than physical circumstances on this temporary earthly journey. “No eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him” (1 Corinthians 2:9). Pray for spiritual health and wealth today, and be prepared to receive His promised abundance and prosperity. Ask the Lord to grow you and those governing this nation in faith.

Today’s Verse: Psalm 1:3

He is like a tree
    planted by streams of water
that yields its fruit in its season,
    and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.

3 For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.” 4 Now to the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due. 5 And to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness, 6 just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one to whom God counts righteousness apart from works:

7 “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven,
    and whose sins are covered;
8 blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not count his sin.”
