Bipartisan Legislators Urge F-16s for Ukraine

Next week marks the anniversary of the initial attack by Russia.

A bipartisan group of members of the House of Representatives is urging President Biden to send F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine. Ukrainian President Zelensky has requested the aircraft or something similar, but so far, the Biden administration has refused.

In a letter to the president, the representatives in the group said the aircraft “could prove decisive for control of Ukrainian airspace this year.”

“The provision of such aircraft is necessary to help Ukraine protect its airspace, particularly in light of renewed Russian offensives and considering the expected increase in large-scale combat operations,” the legislators wrote.

They continued, “F-16s or similar fourth-generation fighter aircraft would provide Ukraine with a highly mobile platform from which to target Russian air-to-air missiles and drones, to protect Ukrainian ground forces as they engage Russian troops, as well as to engage Russian fighters for contested air superiority.” They added that the fighter jets would represent “a sound strategic investment in bolstering Kyiv’s military capability and bringing this conflict to a just conclusion.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for the president and his administration as they consider the request from the group of representatives.
  • For members of Congress to seek God’s direction as they pursue policies and respond to international situations.
