January 22nd – Sunday

For the Lord takes pleasure in His people; He adorns the humble with salvation. – Psalm 149:4

The justices of the Supreme Court gave their ruling on the landmark case Roe v. Wade on this day in 1973. In the original case, the Supreme Court voted 7-2 that the Constitution’s fundamental “right to privacy” protected a woman’s decision to get an abortion. This case has remained one of the most controversial in U.S. history. At the time, even some who were in favor of the right to obtain an abortion thought that the Supreme Court chose an odd Constitutional argument by which to make abortions federally legal. With the Supreme Court overturning that 1973 decision in June of 2022, the abortion debate continues in the courts and state legislatures. As you pray today, ask for the Lord to open the eyes and hearts of decision-makers regarding the value of human life.

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • For wisdom for the justices of the Supreme Court as they consider arguments and challenges surrounding the Constitution.
  • For the judges in the district and appellate courts as they hear and decide cases in their respective regions.
