For the Lord takes pleasure in his people; he adorns the humble with salvation. – Psalm 149:4
There are numerous benefits to having a humble frame of mind, and a heart of humility. James 4:6 says God gives grace to the humble. Webster defines humility as “freedom from pride or arrogance.” The Oxford Dictionary says it is “a modest or low view of one’s own importance; humbleness.” Humility is valued and essential to the believer while it is also practical (Proverbs 11:2, Proverbs 6:3). The Lord requires it of you (Micah 6:8) . Jesus set the example in Matthew 11:29, and humility will bring you joy (Isaiah 29:19).
The believer who is humble and places himself or herself under the control of the Holy Spirit will say, “Let there be less of me and more of Jesus.” Having a heart of humility cultivates a closer walk with God and a deeper, more meaningful prayer life. True worship is not possible if the heart is not humble. Being humble is a prerequisite for victory in spiritual battles. As essential as humility is for service in the kingdom of God, it is also essential in human relationships.
One of the greatest benefits of being humble is that it pleases God, for you have acknowledged Him as being above all. Pray today for the newest members of Congress, that they would be humble as they serve in their federal chamber of governance and represent the people who elected them with integrity. Pray that they, too, would become servants of the Most High God.
