Speaker McCarthy Ends Proxy Voting in House

Members must show up to have their votes counted.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy of California has officially ended the practice of proxy voting. The program was established by Speaker Nancy Pelosi during the COVID-19 pandemic to enable legislators to vote without having to be there in person.

In announcing the change, Speaker McCarthy said, “No more proxy voting. Effective immediately, Members of Congress have to show up to work if they want their vote to count.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Speaker McCarthy to seek God for wisdom as he leads the House of Representatives.
  • For representatives in the lower chamber as they return to in-person voting.
  • For the health of all members of Congress as they serve in the legislative branch of the federal government.
