Secretary Blinken Announces Restrictions Against Belarus

U.S. continues to address President Lukashenka’s administration.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced further actions the Department of State is taking against the regime of President Alexander Lukashenka of Belarus. Over 300 government officials have had visa restrictions imposed against them for undermining the Belarusian democracy and the human rights of peaceful protesters and democratic opposition.

“Those regime officials targeted in today’s action include members of the National Assembly of Belarus for their role in passing legislation to authorize the death penalty for persons convicted of supposed ‘attempted acts of terrorism,’ a charge used to repress and intimidate the democratic opposition and civil society,” said Secretary Blinken. “We will not stand by as this regime continues to harass and repress peaceful protesters, the democratic opposition, journalists, unionists, activists, human rights defenders, and everyday Belarusians.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For discernment for Secretary of State Blinken and U.S. ambassadors as they engage with foreign ministers.
  • For the president and his administration as they address human rights violations in other nations.
