January 17th – Tuesday

Present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. – Romans 12:1

The Northridge Quake was a 6.7-magnitude earthquake that struck the San Fernando Valley in California on this day in 1994. It was one of the more destructive quakes in U.S. history, as it caused the death of 54 people and $20 billion in damage. The quake’s epicenter was located 12 miles under a densely populated area of Los Angeles. However, because it occurred in the middle of the night and most people were at home asleep, the fatalities were a lot lower than they might have been. Also, the city has improved the building and safety codes after another deadly earthquake in 1971. In times such as these, the president can make disaster declarations to assist in the recovery of affected areas. Pray for FEMA officials and personnel as they provide relief from tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, and other severe weather events.

As the Lord leads, pray with us…

  • That FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell would seek the Lord’s guidance as she leads her agency and oversees disaster assistance.
  • For FEMA officials, National Guard troops, and first responders as they render aid and recovery assistance in the wake of disasters.
