State Department Hosts Gender Policy Council Gathering

Secretary Blinken Speaks at the women’s economic strategy launch regarding the global workforce.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke at the unveiling of the Strategy on Global Women’s Economic Security last week. Organized by the department’s Office of Global Women’s Issues, this is the first strategy released by the United States to specifically address the gender gap in the global workforce. Over 2 billion working-age women are currently prohibited from working due to the laws of their countries, and this strategy proposes working both financially and organizationally with global governments to rectify this imbalance.

“Closing the gender gap in the workforce by 2025, as you’ve heard, would add up to $28 trillion to the global economy,” said Secretary Blinken. “Especially at a time when we are working to recover from COVID, deal with the impact of climate, address the many conflicts that are also holding back the global economy, that contribution is more vital than ever.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Blinken as he works to support the women’s security strategy.
  • For U.S. officials as they focus on the rights of women in the global workforce.
