Vice President Swears in Senate President Pro Tempore

Senator Murray becomes the first woman to ever hold the role.

Vice President Kamala Harris presided over the Senate on the first day of the 118th Congress, where she swore in Senator Patty Murray of Washington as president pro tempore of the Senate.

This is the third highest position in the federal government, and Senator Murray is the first woman to ever serve in the position. When the vice president is not presiding over the Senate, the president pro tempore presides over Senate gatherings.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For discernment for Senator Murray as she assumes the position of President Pro Tempore.
  • For Vice President Harris as she fills her role in the Senate.
  • For members of the Senate as they discuss and debate upcoming legislation.
