Senate Moves Forward on Omnibus Legislation

Title 42 immigration policy is among the amendments being considered.

As the deadline approaches for the funding of the government, the much-negotiated omnibus legislation is moving toward a vote in the Senate. The initial vote failed after Senator Mike Lee of Utah introduced an amendment to maintain the Title 42 immigration policy.

The amendment would cut funding to the Department of Homeland Security if Title 42 is not reinstated by President Biden’s administration. Senate Appropriations Homeland Security Subcommittee Chair Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut said there is a difference of opinion regarding immigration policy.

Border security officials have estimated that over 20 thousand migrants have been waiting in Mexico for Title 42 to expire so they may apply for asylum.

Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York said that there will be voting on each of the amendments that have been added to the bill.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer as he endeavors to get the funding legislation passed.
  • For wisdom for members of the Senate as they debate immigration and funding priorities.
