Federal Legislators Continue to Work on Funding Bill

Congress tries to avert a government shutdown Friday.

Members of Congress have unveiled a $1.7 trillion government spending bill that would provide $858 billion to the military. Domestic programs would receive $772 billion, which includes $119 billion for the medical care of veterans.

Federal legislators worked through the weekend on the omnibus legislation in an attempt to come to an agreement that will pass both chambers of Congress before the deadline Friday, December 23. Members of the Senate hope to pass the bill in time for the House to vote on it Thursday.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For members of the Senate to have wisdom as they prepare the funding legislation and vote on it.
  • For members of the House as they consider and negotiate their priorities and programs in the funding.
