Knowing God’s Will

He has told you, O man, what is good, and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?  – Micah 6:8

How many times have you wondered what God’s will is for you as a believer in Christ? Or maybe you have heard someone else expressing their frustration about not knowing what God wants. Today’s verse reveals a trifecta of pleasing God: justice, kindness, and humility. Sometimes it is not your exact actions that concern God, but how and why you do them.

When you wonder what God wants, ask yourself, am I doing what is just, kind, and humble? Oxford Languages defines “just” as “based on or behaving according to what is morally right and fair.” You can evaluate your actions and behavior and ask the Lord to show you where they are not morally right and fair. Kindness is “the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate.” As you consider your choices, think about the effects they have on others and ask God to help you in any areas you are not reflecting His compassion.

Humility, according to Miriam Webster, means “freedom from pride or arrogance.” In context, this is an awareness of who you are with respect to who God is. Everything that is good, including the ability to do good, comes from God’s grace and not from yourself. As you go about daily life and make decisions, are you aware of His greatness and your dependence upon Him?

Whether you are deciding where to live, if you need a career change, or whether or not you should step into a new adventure, make justice, kindness, and humility your goal. Commit your plans to the Lord. In Proverbs 3:5-6, He promises, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Intercede on behalf of citizens and public officials today, that their hearts be turned to the Lord and for the values of true justice, kindness, and humility to be replenished in the United States.

12 Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
