Interior Secretary Visits Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands

Tours historic sites and rebuilding efforts after Hurricanes Irma and Maria.

Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland was joined by Assistant Secretary for Insular and International Affairs Carmen Cantor in visiting the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico last week, highlighting efforts made to improve climate resiliency in U.S. territories. She visited several construction sites where the islands were rebuilding key infrastructure items damaged by Hurricanes Irma and Maria. She also visited a coral restoration site, a sea turtle management project, and other conservation projects sponsored by the America the Beautiful initiative.

The Interior press secretary stated, “Throughout the visit, they met with elected leaders and community partners, visited National Park Service (NPS) and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service-managed areas, and toured sites that help tell the story of enslaved people in the USVI.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Assistant Secretary Cantor as she oversees Insular and International Affairs within the Interior Department.
  • For Secretary Haaland to seek God’s direction as she pursues conservation and preservation efforts.
  • For the leaders in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands as they continue recovery efforts from the damaging hurricanes.
