U.S., UK, and EU Allow Russian Fertilizer for Food Security

Individual guidances issued for food industry and partners.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken released a joint statement this week with Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the European Union, and James Cleverly, the Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom. The three leaders emphasized that their sanctions against Russia are only against the war efforts, not against that nation’s contributions to global food security. Each leader released documents clarifying policies within their countries to show how to access Russian food and fertilizer without violating sanctions made against the war machine.

The leaders said in the joint statement, “We call on our global partners, and on the actors, industries, and services involved in agricultural trade, to take note of these provisions; to act in accordance with them; to bring Ukrainian and Russian food and fertilizer to meet acute demand; and to continue to advance the accessibility of food to all.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary of State Blinken as he discusses foreign policy and relations with international leaders.
  • For U.S. officials as they assess global food security and respond to findings.
  • For wisdom for the president and his advisors as they continue to address the conflict in Ukraine.
