Justice

Truly I understand that God shows no partiality.  – Acts 10:34

Justice is a characteristic of God and a core concept for governing in the Bible—“righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; steadfast love and faithfulness go before you” (Psalm 89:14). Along with His justice, God’s characteristics of love and faithfulness make Him the perfect Judge of all things. Here on Earth, God allows people to hold positions of authority requiring the judgment of others.

Because of sin, no human can rightly judge another. Humanity is inclined toward what is morally wrong rather than what is righteous and just. Without Christ, justice is an improbable outcome in human interactions. Through Christ, the Spirit of God leads those who have the responsibility to judge others to make decisions that honor Him and help people.

By accepting the righteousness of Christ, you can come out of the place of self-righteous judgment toward others. One must draw near to the heart of the Lord in order to enact His justice. Godly faith, put into action brings His goodness into reality on Earth: “Evil men do not understand justice, but those who seek the Lord understand it completely” (Proverbs 28:5).

Pray for the judges and justices in American courts to adopt a humble position before God, submitting themselves and their work to Him through His Son Jesus Christ. Ask that decisions made in the nation’s highest court reflect God’s justice rather than human wisdom.
