Tropical Storm Nicole Headed Toward FL

Officials project it will strengthen into a hurricane by landfall.

Eastern Florida is already experiencing heavy rain, high winds, and coastal flooding as Tropical Storm Nicole heads toward the state. The storm, which currently has maximum sustained winds of 70mph, is forecast to reach hurricane strength by the time it makes landfall Wednesday night.

The National Weather Service stated, “A dangerous storm surge from Nicole is expected along much of the east coast of FL, portions of coastal GA, & FL Big Bend. The storm surge will be accompanied by large & damaging waves along the Atlantic coast.“

Governor Ron DeSantis has “urged Floridians to listen to local emergency management officials for updates related to their counties.“ He has expanded his executive order to include 45 Florida counties under the state of emergency.

Georgia and South Carolina are also at risk of damaging winds and heavy rain.
