United Nations Climate Conference Convenes in Egypt

The conflict in Ukraine has created hurdles regarding energy.

Representatives from around the world are meeting for the United Nations climate summit, called COP27, which convened on Sunday in Egypt to discuss efforts to address climate change. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres opened the annual climate talks with dire warnings regarding the warming of the planet.

U.S. Climate Envoy John Kerry said that the conflict in Ukraine has complicated progress but believes countries will be able to come to an agreement. He also stated that countries have recognized they need to reduce their dependence on oil and gas as energy sources.

Many parts of Europe are experiencing energy shortages. A wind farm in western Germany is in the process of being dismantled so that an open-pit coal mine can expand.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For discernment for Climate Envoy Kerry as he represents the U.S. at the climate summit.
  • For the UN secretary general as he presides over the discussions.
  • For wisdom for the various ministers and leaders as they determine the next steps in addressing climate change.
