Soft Hearts

The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.  – 1 Corinthians 2:14

Have you ever shared something God has done for you with an unbeliever and they looked at you as if they thought you were crazy? They were probably not with you in the quiet hour when you heard God and believed. They likely have not experienced the words of the Bible coming alive and speaking to their situation as you did. They might not understand how the turmoil that you were going through was relieved through prayer.

Will they ever be able to understand? One solution is intercessory prayer. God can soften hard hearts. “And I will give them one heart, and a new spirit I will put within them. I will remove the heart of stone from their flesh and give them a heart of flesh” (Ezekiel 11:19). However, He is also the One who can harden them the way He did with Pharoah of Egypt (Exodus 7:3, 4). In addition, humans have a choice about hardening their own hearts. “They made their hearts diamond-hard” (Zechariah 7:12). In answer to prayer, the Lord often strengthens the inner man through trials and temptations. Before Peter’s denial of Christ, Jesus said, “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers“ (Luke 22:31-32).

Pray that God will soften the hardened spiritual hearts and open the blinded spiritual eyes of government officials and citizens of the United States. Pray for believers to be strong through trials and remain faithful to God through His grace in Christ.

15 For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, 16 I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, 18 having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might 20 that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. 22 And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.
