Surgeon General Releases Guidance on Workplace Mental Health

Five essential items are highlighted to guide business leaders.

Surgeon General Vivek Murthy released a 30-page framework last week for businesses to use to improve mental health and well-being in the workplace. Surveys conducted by the Department of Health and Human Services have found that 76 percent of U.S. workers report at least one negative mental health symptom due to workplace stress, and 81 percent of workers said they will be looking for a workplace that prioritizes their mental health in their next place of employment.

“It will require organizations to rethink how they protect workers from harm, foster a sense of connection among workers, show workers that they matter, make space for their lives outside work, and support their growth,” said Surgeon General Murthy. “It will be worth it, because the benefits will accrue for workers and organizations alike.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the surgeon general as he attempts to support mental health in the workplace.
  • For HHS Secretary Becerra to seek the Lord’s wisdom as he leads the federal health department.
  • For Secretary Walsh to be discerning as he heads the Department of Labor.
