For Him

For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.  – Colossians 1:16

God is sovereign, and He loves justice. He has occasionally raised up leaders that were not His perfect will. God said, “I gave you a king in my anger, and I took him away in my wrath” (Hosea 13:11). Israel had pressed God for a king like other countries had. God allowed a king and established his throne, but in the end, King Saul’s kingdom ceased and God replaced him with His choice, King David.

God loves justice and when a king persists in promoting injustice and evil, He removes that king. However, He is also a God of order. Romans 13:1 says, “Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.” God is ultimately in control, but sometimes He gives what His people ask for to show that His ways are best.

This country’s opinion is split nearly in half of who should be the president of the United States. According to the Constitution, U. S. citizens have a right to vote according to or opposed to Biblical convictions. Many question the fairness of recent elections. As you pray today, ask that each election this season will be processed properly and that justice and mercy will prevail. Intercede for elected officials of this nation to promote peace and freedom of religion for all its citizens. Pray that the Lord has His way as the people of the United States cast their votes and that His purposes would be accomplished in and through the government of the United States.

Today’s Verse: Colossians 1:16

For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.
