President Biden Nominates Surgeon General to WHO Board

The post requires Senate confirmation.

This week, President Joe Biden announced his intent to nominate Surgeon General Vivek Murthy to be the U.S. Representative on the World Health Organization’s (WHO) executive board. Dr. Murthy was confirmed as the 21st Surgeon General of the United States in March 2021. He had previously served as the 19th Surgeon General under President Barack Obama.

“Rejoining the WHO requires an experienced and seasoned physician and public health expert,” a White House official said. “Dr. Murthy is the perfect person for that.” If Dr. Murthy is confirmed by the Senate, he will continue to serve as the Surgeon General while taking on this new WHO position.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the president and his administration as nominees are appointed to various positions.
  • For members of the Senate as they consider and vote on the president’s nominees.
