More House Members Oppose Senate Energy Side Deal

Letter sent to House speaker to remove the provision from funding bill.

On Monday, 77 members of the House signed a letter written by House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer to the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, publicly opposing Senator Joe Manchin’s side deal to facilitate energy permitting in his state included in the federal funding resolution. The measure is the result of the agreement between Senate Majority Leader Schumer and Senator Manchin to win the latter’s support for the recently passed Inflation Reduction Act.

“The proposed legislation would restrict public access to the courts to seek remedies against illegal project development; place arbitrary limits on the amount of time the public is given to comment on polluting projects; and curtail public input, environmental review, and government accountability,” the letter reads.

The House speaker and Senate majority leader have both indicated support for the permitting measure.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Speak Pelosi as she considers the request from the group of representatives regarding the West Virginia energy permitting.
  • For wisdom for members of the House as they evaluate the federal funding resolution.
  • For Majority Leader Schumer and senators who are assessing the budget bill.
