Parentage

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”  – John 14:6

The identity of the father of Jesus was a source of public interest for His entire earthly life. The religious leaders based their rejection of Him, in part, on His questionable earthly lineage. At times, His followers had difficulty understanding that God was His actual Father. The Gospel book of John records Jesus in a clear description of the relationship with and identity He has in His Father.

Jesus lived as God’s reflection, “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:9). And Jesus confidently proclaims the love He shares with Him, “For the Father loves the Son” (John 5:20). As His Son, Jesus submitted to the Father’s desires, “The Son can do nothing of His own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing” (John 5:19). Yet Father and Son share glory equally, “For the Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son, that all may honor the son, just as they honor the Father” (John 5:22-23).

The “family business“ is conquering death and bringing life: “For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he will” (John 5:21). Jesus grants all who will believe the truth of His parentage a place in their family relationship, “I will not leave you as orphans… I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you” (John 14:18, 20).

Pray for many across America to find their way to the Father, God, through His Son, Jesus Christ. Ask that pastors and congregational leaders would be faithful to proclaim the truth of God’s love and salvation as good news for all.

8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders, 9 if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed, 10 let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by him this man is standing before you well. 11 This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. 12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
