Let Knowledge Run Deep

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth; but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it.  – Joshua 1:8

You would think he would have known! Joshua had been only one of two who had come back with an optimistic view of the Promise Land and confidence that God would protect and guide His people as they went forward. He had spent the next 40 years with Moses in the wilderness, he had fought battles and listened to Moses deliver God’s words to the people of Israel.

But when Moses died, God knew Joshua would need to be grounded even more in the Book of the Law so he would not waiver when trials came. Joshua was to meditate on God’s words day and night. He was to make the commandments of God a part of his inner being. He would need to be strong and courageous to deal with the people of Israel and to meet the challenges of the enemy. He needed to be humble, knowing that his strength and wisdom came from the Lord. He needed to know the God who would be with him.

It is no different for you. Strength and wisdom to meet the challenges of today come from your strong foundation in the knowledge of God. Confidence in Him is the result of understanding who He is. Then problems and difficulties do not rob you of your faith. Obedience becomes easier as your knowledge of God deepens, and your courage will grow.

Pray for those in this nation, including government officials, whose knowledge of God is shallow, that they might be strengthened to do right. And internalize God’s Word that He might reveal more of Himself to you. Be humble. Be courageous.

Today’s Verse: Joshua 1:8

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

5 No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you. 6 Be strong and courageous, for you shall cause this people to inherit the land that I swore to their fathers to give them. 7 Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go. 8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
