Explaining Your Faith

As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions.  – Romans 14:1

Community is a powerful force. Friends and respected advisors can give you the courage to try new things and attempt difficult goals. Conversely, friends who speak words of fear or doubt can layer your life with concern. Both fear and faith are contagious!

Jesus set an example of how to handle those with weaker faith in your orbit of companions. As He was describing how He would go to His Father’s house and prepare a place for His friends, Thomas spoke up. “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way? “ (John 14:5). And then Philip chimed in displaying a lack of understanding, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us” (John 14:8).

Jesus answered each with direct statements of clarity, saying to Thomas, “I am the way and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you would have known me, you would have known my Father also” (John 14:6-7). And to Phillip, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:9).

Contagious faith is never the result of winning an argument! You can explain the reasons for your beliefs and reveal what God has already done in your life without being belligerent or belittling others.

Pray for believers on America’s public platforms to follow Christ’s example, displaying their identity in God’s Kingdom by letting God’s work and Word shine as the basis for their faith.

13 Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, 15 but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” 17 And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one’s deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile, 18 knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. 20 He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you 21 who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
