Senate Passes “Inflation Reduction Act”

$740 billion bill addresses social spending and taxes.

In a session that convened on Saturday, the U.S. Senate spent the night and part of Sunday working its way through amendments to the social spending and tax legislation. The measure finally passed with Vice President Kamala Harris casting the tie-breaking vote in favor of the measure that purports to increase taxes on large corporations, address climate change, and lower prescription drug costs.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York stated, “The Senate is making history.” He continued, “To Americans who’ve lost faith that Congress can do big things, this bill is for you. This bill is going to change America for decades.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for members of the House as they consider the legislation.
  • For discernment for the president and his advisors as he anticipates signing the act.
  • For senators as they proceed with voting on nominees and other measures before their chamber.
