$740 billion bill addresses social spending and taxes.
In a session that convened on Saturday, the U.S. Senate spent the night and part of Sunday working its way through amendments to the social spending and tax legislation. The measure finally passed with Vice President Kamala Harris casting the tie-breaking vote in favor of the measure that purports to increase taxes on large corporations, address climate change, and lower prescription drug costs.
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York stated, “The Senate is making history.” He continued, “To Americans who’ve lost faith that Congress can do big things, this bill is for you. This bill is going to change America for decades.”
