Big People

Do not call conspiracy all that this people calls conspiracy and do not fear what they fear, nor be in dread.  – Isaiah 8:12

Who are the “big people” in your life? You know, the ones whose opinions matter, really matter, to you. They are the ones you may moderate your speech a bit to please or you watch their expressions when discussing important topics. Big people can wield power in your life but be aware that they could also become a roadblock to your faith.

It has been said, “When people are big, God is small.” As Jesus walked among the lame and desperate people at Bethesda, he encountered a man that had been an invalid for 38 years. He had no hope for healing, yet Jesus commands him to pick up his mat and walk away! The powerful religious leaders at that time were incensed that Jesus had the man pick up his mat and walk, breaking their Sabbath laws. They totally disregarded God’s miracle healing! Jesus responded to their criticisms, “How can you believe when you receive glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?” (John 5:44). At their core, as religiously observant as they were, those powerful men worshiped their own ideas.

“The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, that one may turn away from the snares of death” (Proverbs 14:27). Pray for God’s people across America to have confidence in God alone for the future. Intercede for decision-makers and people of influence in the nation, that they might seek God’s wisdom and learn from His word.

Today’s Verse: Isaiah 8:12

Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel
    and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts:
“I am the first and I am the last;
    besides me there is no god.
7 Who is like me? Let him proclaim it.
    Let him declare and set it before me,
since I appointed an ancient people.
    Let them declare what is to come, and what will happen.
8 Fear not, nor be afraid;
    have I not told you from of old and declared it?
    And you are my witnesses!
Is there a God besides me?
    There is no Rock; I know not any.”

9 All who fashion idols are nothing, and the things they delight in do not profit. Their witnesses neither see nor know, that they may be put to shame. 10 Who fashions a god or casts an idol that is profitable for nothing? 11 Behold, all his companions shall be put to shame, and the craftsmen are only human. Let them all assemble, let them stand forth. They shall be terrified; they shall be put to shame together.
