Presidents Biden and Xi to Teleconference

Taiwan and Ukraine may both be on the agenda.

President Biden said Wednesday that he expects to speak with Chinese President Xi Jinping “within the next 10 days” in an effort to manage rising tensions over Taiwan, trade, a deadlocked bilateral diplomatic agenda, and China’s aid to Russia in Ukraine. He said details on the agenda are being worked out.

One diplomatic source said the virtual meeting could happen within the next 24 to 48 hours, so perhaps as early as Thursday evening.

President Biden’s main objective may well be to ensure China’s negative reaction to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s planned trip to Taiwan does not derail discussions for a long-awaited in-person meeting between the two presidents in November.

President Biden is now out of isolation as his most recent COVID tests came back negative.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the president’s health to continue to improve after his bout with the coronavirus.
  • For the president’s advisors and staff to have wisdom as they set the agenda and details for the teleconference with President Xi.
