Unmatched Love

If our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God.  – 1 John 3:21

Pastor Herschel H. Hobbs says that the heart and substance of Christian duty is based on three loves: “God’s love for us, our love for Him, and in Him our love for others.” Pastor Hobbs goes on to say that if you point in each of these directions – God’s love coming down to you, your love through faith in Christ ascending to God, and the love you have for your fellow humans extending in either direction – you make the sign of a cross.

The apostle John wanted believers in Christ Jesus to focus on the right things. One basic doctrine is the fact that “the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin” (1 John 1:7). Faith in Him makes you His child which prompts you to obey, living your life His way. “Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God” (1 John 3:10).

As you become closer to the Lord, you become more conscious of your sins – of the things that you have done that you should not, and of the things you ought to have done but did not. The enemy will accuse you of not being a Christian because of your failures. However, God is the Judge, not the devil. The Lord will look at you through the righteousness of Christ… with a love that cannot be matched. This is not a license to sin, but a challenge to follow God’s Word more closely, and to love Him and others more deeply.

You can have the confidence to come to Him with requests. He works in your heart to desire what He wills for you. Then pray for this nation and those in public office, that they may know God’s love and His will for them.

Today’s Verse: 1 John 3:21

Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God;

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.

16 By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. 17 But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? 18 Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.

19 By this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before him; 20 for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything. 21 Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God; 22 and whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him. 23 And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us.
