Determined Hope

But as for me, I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me.  – Micah 7:7

The world is in turmoil. As the prophet Isaiah wrote, it is calling good evil, and evil good (5:20). Despite the uncertainties of the current day, believers in Christ maintain their focus. And the hope of the Gospel message is one of the points to hold on to.

There was great corruption at every level of society during the time of the prophet Micah. Those in positions of power were corrupt and compromising to the point the very foundations of morality had been destroyed. They openly accepted bribes and sold justice without shame (Micah 3:11). The people were violent, deceitful liars (Micah 6:12). The best of them were like briers, the most upright like a thorny hedge ((Micah 7:4).

Other verses remind you that faith was not to be found anywhere, friends were not to be trusted, there was no help from families, and lawlessness was everywhere including between children and parents. Yet, as today’s verse says, Micah determined to wait in faith and in hope, knowing God’s timing is always best, His blessings are worth waiting for, and the prophet would not be disappointed. He had confidence that God was with him and would hear his prayers.

Today, you can be like Micah. Keep the faith. Fight the good fight. Grab hold of righteousness. Seek the light of hope in the darkness. Stay determined to walk in daily closeness with the Lord. As you do, pray for those Christ-followers in positions of power to stand against corruption and injustice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with God (Micah 6:8).

Today’s Verse: Micah 7:7

But as for me, I will look to the Lord;
    I will wait for the God of my salvation;
    my God will hear me.

Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord!
2     O Lord, hear my voice!
Let your ears be attentive
    to the voice of my pleas for mercy!

3 If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities,
    O Lord, who could stand?
4 But with you there is forgiveness,
    that you may be feared.

5 I wait for the Lord, my soul waits,
    and in his word I hope;
6 my soul waits for the Lord
    more than watchmen for the morning,
    more than watchmen for the morning.

7 O Israel, hope in the Lord!
    For with the Lord there is steadfast love,
    and with him is plentiful redemption.
8 And he will redeem Israel
    from all his iniquities.
