Administration Commits to Fair Migrant Employment

Labor and State Departments promise fair practices for H-2B visa program participants.

The Departments of Labor and State issued the “Guidance on Fair Recruitment Practices for Temporary Migrant Workers” as part of the commitment of the president’s administration at the Summit of the Americas. The departments expect these guidelines to close loopholes in the H-2A and H-2B visa programs that have allowed Central and South American migrants to be overworked and underpaid by employers.

“This collaborative effort by the Departments of Labor and State, and the U.S. Agency for International Development will help protect prospective workers in the H-2A and H-2B programs from abuse,” said Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh. “The guidance announced today is intended to increase transparency and regulation of H-2A and H-2B worker recruitment programs and safeguard workers’ fundamental rights.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the Labor and State officials as they seek to protect migrant labor from exploitation.
  • For migrant workers living in the U.S. on H-2B visas.
