Authorities say he was there to kill Kavanaugh.
A California man armed with a handgun, a knife, pepper spray, and burglary tools was arrested early Wednesday morning near the Maryland home of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Authorities reported that the unidentified man, in his mid-20s, told police he was there to kill the justice.
Authorities said he was stopped by police a block away from the residence, but not at it. Officials said the man made a 911 call in which he said he had homicidal thoughts and he traveled to attack Justice Kavanaugh.
Officials further reported that the man told the 911 operator that he had an unloaded gun, in a locked case, in his suitcase.
Federal criminal charges were expected to be lodged against the man later in the day.
