President Biden Calls for Assault Weapons Ban

Cites 10 year assault weapons ban from 1994.

President Joe Biden gave a speech in the White House’s Cross Hall last week in which he called for Congress to pass a number of proposed gun control bills. The president urged closing gun sale loopholes via legislation that would allow gun manufacturers to be sued for misuse, ban high-capacity magazines, raise the legal gun purchasing age to 21, and expand background checks.

“According to new data just released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, guns are the number one killer of children in the United States of America,” President Biden said. “There have always been limitations on what weapons you can own in America. For example, machine guns have been federally regulated for nearly 90 years. And this is still a free country. This isn’t about taking away anyone’s rights. It’s about protecting children.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the House speaker and Senate majority leader as they consider the president’s request for gun legislation.
  • For members of both chambers of Congress as they deliberate the gun control bills.
  • For wisdom for the president and his administration as they take action to address violence.
