USDA Announces Additional Support for Meat Industry

Expands competition funding and workforce training.

Last week, Secretary Tom Vilsack announced additional action steps that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will be taking to support American meat and poultry producers. They will make $200 million available to independent meat processors through the Meat and Poultry Intermediary Lending Program to aid in start-up and expansion costs. The USDA will also propose legislation to bring accountability and transparency to large processing plant procedures.

“For too long, farmers and ranchers have seen the value and the opportunities they work so hard to create move away from the rural communities where they live and operate,” Secretary Vilsack said. “The funding and new rule we’re announcing today ultimately will help us give farmers and ranchers a fair shake, strengthen supply chains, and make food prices fairer.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Vilsack to have wisdom as he oversees support of meat and poultry producers.
  • For USDA officials as they implement lending programs for farmers and ranchers.
  • For U.S. meat and poultry producers as they face adverse weather conditions and rising costs.
