First Lady Addresses Youth Mental Health

Hosts conversation at White House with surgeon general.

This week, First Lady Jill Biden hosted a discussion on Youth Mental Health at the White House. She was joined by Surgeon General Vivek Murthy and actress Selena Gomez. The artist has spoken openly about her bipolar disorder.

First Lady Jill Biden said, “Over the last decade, an alarming number of young people have struggled with mental health challenges. And the pandemic has made it so much worse.“ She added, “We’re recovering every single day, but recovery isn’t always the same as healing.“

The first lady expressed gratitude to those present who shared their struggles, saying, “It takes courage to, you know, be honest about the struggles that you faced and to tell your stories. And it takes courage to understand that your voice can make a difference and to show your creativity and talents, you know, to all of the world.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the first lady as she advocates for the mental health of youth in the wake of the pandemic.
  • For discernment for the president and secretary of health and human services as the administration addresses mental health.
  • That young people who are feeling hopeless or in despair would seek help.
