The Chief Baker

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.  – Romans 8:28

When you consider fluffy flour, dry baking powder, almost-soapy baking soda, gooey eggs, gritty sugar, nasty-tasting vanilla, and bitter cocoa—on their own most of these are unappetizing. Some, like cocoa, leave a bad taste in your mouth. But an experienced baker knows how to combine these ingredients to make a delicious chocolate cake. For the Christian, God is that experienced cook that knows how to put all the ingredients of your life together to make something good and delicious of your life. And healthy and nutritious too!

Today’s verse from Romans is one of the most encouraging in the Bible, bringing comfort to the believer. Knowing that God is working behind the scenes in your life for the good yields peace of mind and confidence. The conditions to receiving this are loving Him and being called according to His purpose. To love Him and love others are key elements to living a successful Christian life. As you make your plans each day, ask the Lord to help you live with His purpose in mind. This looks different in each individual’s life.

God loves you, as an individual, and has a unique purpose and plan for your life. Pray that He would enable you to fulfill His purpose for you and that He will be glorified in the way He answers your prayers. Ask that His will would be done in your life and in the lives of your loved ones. Pray that the name of Jesus will be lifted up in the United States and that He will draw people to Himself. Thank Him for the good He is working in your life and in this nation.

28 And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?” 29 Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” 32 And the scribe said to him, “You are right, Teacher. You have truly said that he is one, and there is no other besides him. 33 And to love him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength, and to love one’s neighbor as oneself, is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.” 34 And when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And after that no one dared to ask him any more questions.
