Friday, April 15

On this Good Friday, President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden are at Camp David. They are scheduled to spend Easter weekend at the presidential retreat. The president has no public events scheduled at this time.

A contingent of federal legislators has made an unannounced trip to Taiwan. Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey, who is also chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina have led the delegation that reflects the support of the U.S. for Taiwan as China has continued to make claims on that nation as part of its territory. Senators Richard Burr of North Carolina, Ben Sasse of Nebraska, Rob Portman of Ohio, and Representative Ronny Jackson of Texas are also among the group of legislators.

Taiwan Foreign Minister Joseph Wu met the delegation when they arrived on Thursday. The U.S. legislators will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen in Taipei and then return to the U.S.

In early February, both chambers of Congress proposed legislation to rename the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Washington, D.C., the “Taiwan Representative Office” as a show of support.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the president and first family as they observe Holy Week.
  • For wisdom for the members of Congress as they meet with the president of Taiwan.
  • For discernment for U.S. officials as China maintains the claim to Taiwan.
  • For safety for the delegation as they make the return trip.
