Forever God

 Even to your old age I am he, and to gray hairs I will carry you. I have made, and I will bear, I will carry and save.  – Isaiah 46:4

You would think after so many warnings, they would have listened! Moses had declared to the nation of Israel that God, their God, had called them to be His special people. This was the “I AM” who had led them from Egypt and would now forge their way into the Promised Land. Israel needed to be faithful to God as He had been faithful to them.

But they failed. They worshipped the golden calf in the wilderness (Exodus 32:19-20). They worshipped an idol as did their enemies. Human hands would take a tree and shape it into something that would be called a god. If someone was wealthy, he might cover it with gold. Pastor J. Vernon McGee comments, “If a man doesn’t have much money, he has a cheap god. If he is rich, he has a rich god.” What kind of a god was that?! It couldn’t hear or see; it would have to be carried and protected.

Isaiah reminded Israel that theirs is Creator God – He had made them. He had carried each one from the moment of birth. They had seen what their God could do. He had protected them. He had blessed them when they were obedient.

And He will do the same for you. He will bear your burdens and will guide you. He has saved you from eternal death – He is your Deliverer. Pray, dear one, that this nation would hearken back to the voice of the God who is living, seeing, and hearing the pleas of His people. Believer, don’t waiver from the worship of Him who will bear you up as you go through the trials of life. He alone is able.

Today’s Verse: Isaiah 46:4

even to your old age I am he,
    and to gray hairs I will carry you.
I have made, and I will bear;
    I will carry and will save.

But now thus says the Lord,
he who created you, O Jacob,
    he who formed you, O Israel:
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
    I have called you by name, you are mine.
2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
    and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;
when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,
    and the flame shall not consume you.

“You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord,
    “and my servant whom I have chosen,
that you may know and believe me
    and understand that I am he.
Before me no god was formed,
    nor shall there be any after me.
11 I, I am the Lord,
    and besides me there is no savior.
