Free Lunch

If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.  – John 15:7

Feeding the world is difficult. Even the brightest minds in society seem baffled at how to minimize waste and increase distribution effectively enough to get food on the plates of the world’s underfed people. You may have never been very hungry, but you probably have attended an event specifically for the free lunch included!

Jesus was an authoritative speaker and news traveled quickly that, in addition to His amazing teaching, there was a good chance you could get a free meal! Crowds began to follow Him for the possibility of a full belly as well as for healing, but He would not allow that to remain their purpose: “You are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. Do not work for food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life” (Matthew 6:26-27).

Many today seek God for what He can do for them in a physical sense. Some might even tell you great riches will be yours to consume if you just ask. But Jesus did not say that! He did say that those who follow Him will seek and ask for the Father’s will to be done, just like He did “I seek not my own will but the will of Him who sent me” (John 5:30). And the Father responds to requests made in the name of His Son.

Intercede on behalf of those who manage America’s food supply to be wise in their decisions. Ask God to quicken the hearts of His followers to be attentive to His voice in these challenging times. Pray for the Father’s will to be done in the name of His Son.

Today’s Verse: John 15:7

If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. 36 But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. 37 All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. 38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. 40 For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”
