Heart to Heart

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more.  – Revelation 21:4

Imagine a tender moment in a romantic movie when the hero takes a handkerchief and wipes the tears from his sweetheart’s eyes. It’s a personal, intimate moment. A picture similar to this is described when the New Jerusalem descends and God dwells with His people, wiping tears away from His beloved’s eyes. God is not just some ethereal Being off in another world. In the Holy Spirit, He is right here on the earth, loving you.

Today’s verse is just one of many images of an intimate God. Jesus, who was the expression of the Father, said that He knows the number of hairs on your head (Matthew 10:30) and that He knows what you need before you ask it (Matthew 6:8). The apostle Peter says to cast your cares on God for He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). And it is no accident that there are about a hundred Bible verses about the Church being the Bride of Christ. This is a picture of the heart-to-heart love God desires for each of His children.

The realization that He knows you intimately and loves you and calls you by name will undergird your faith, add to your peace in difficult times, and make your prayer life vibrant. Today, thank Him for being personal. He knows you and loves you. Jesus said to His disciples, “I have called you friends” (John 15:15). Enter His presence as a friend, thanking Him for His tender care. Bring Him all your needs and the cares of the United States. Ask Him to do a great work of revival in this nation that will expand throughout the world.

Today’s Verse: Revelation 21:4

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

17 But you must remember, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. 18 They said to you, “In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.” 19 It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit. 20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life. 22 And have mercy on those who doubt; 23 save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh.

24 Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, 25 to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.
