DOJ Unveils New Strategy Against Russian Crime

More rigorous enforcement and communications disruptions included.

This past week, the Department of Justice announced a series of measures to address Russia’s criminal actions. The first is by heavily prosecuting Russian oligarch Konstantin Malofeyev for sanctions violations, unsealing indictment charges against him dating back to the Crimean invasion of 2014. The second is the unveiling of the KleptoCapture Task Force, which has been working to disrupt Russia’s military botnet that spreads malware across the globe.

“Our message to those who continue to enable the Russian regime through their criminal conduct is this: It does not matter how far you sail your yacht,” said Attorney General Merrick Garland. “It does not matter how cleverly you write your malware or hide your online activity. The Justice Department will use every available tool to find you, disrupt your plots, and hold you accountable.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For discernment for the attorney general as he oversees efforts to hold Russian criminal actors accountable.
  • For Justice Department officials as they implement new strategies against Russian individuals and organizations.
  • For U.S. cybersecurity professionals, both public and private, as they seek to protect national cyber infrastructure.
