Faithful, not Fearful

Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship you, for your righteous acts have been revealed.  – Revelation 15:4

“Context, context, context”. Whenever reading Scripture, this is the key to understanding. When read in context, today’s verse is a call to worship situated immediately before the seven angels are sent to pour out their bowls of wrath upon the Earth in the last days. Many in this nation fear the effects of foreign conflict, Covid-19 and illness, global warming, political instability, crime, or terrorism. However, for those who trust in the Lord, fear can fade in light of the fact that He is faithful.

While this world faces the consequences of unrighteousness and rebellion against God, as His faithful follower, you can rely on the love and mercy of the Lord. During His ministry, Jesus spoke of judgment more than any prophet before Him. It is not a contradictory thought to salvation. The Lord hates sin as much as He loves righteousness. The song of the redeemed saints in heaven found in Revelation 15 is a song of Moses and a song of the Lamb. It speaks of God’s character – His omnipotence, His sovereignty over all, His holiness, perfection, and righteousness as Creator and Judge.

To the believer in Christ as Messiah, the attributes of God will only draw you closer to Him. He has fearfully and wonderfully made you and holds you in His hand to protect you and comfort you (Psalm 139). He is worthy of your worship. One day, every knee will bow at the name of Jesus (Philippians 2:10). Until that day, pray for the salvation of the people of this nation, including those in authority. Then, stand in awe of the Lord who continues to do great and marvelous works!

Today’s Verse: Revelation 15:4

Who will not fear, O Lord,
    and glorify your name?
For you alone are holy.
    All nations will come
    and worship you,
for your righteous acts have been revealed.”

2 And I saw what appeared to be a sea of glass mingled with fire—and also those who had conquered the beast and its image and the number of its name, standing beside the sea of glass with harps of God in their hands. 3 And they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying,

“Great and amazing are your deeds,
    O Lord God the Almighty!
Just and true are your ways,
    O King of the nations!
4 Who will not fear, O Lord,
    and glorify your name?
For you alone are holy.
    All nations will come
    and worship you,
for your righteous acts have been revealed.”

O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.
2     Out of the mouth of babies and infants,
you have established strength because of your foes,
to still the enemy and the avenger.

3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
4 what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?

5 Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
and crowned him with glory and honor.
6 You have given him dominion over the works of your hands;
you have put all things under his feet,
7 all sheep and oxen,
and also the beasts of the field,
8 the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea,
whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

9 O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
