Separation and Segregation

All the nations you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name.  – Psalm 86:9

What do the words separated and segregated bring to your mind? You don’t have to look far today to see divided communities and nations at war. Unity is illusive across human history. Yet, there is a glimpse of the future that might encourage you in the book of Revelation: “After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, crying out with a loud voice, ‘Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!’ “ (Revelation 7: 9-10).

Do you notice identity is not dissolved before God’s throne? Individual people groups and nations are recognized yet unity exists! The resurrection of Christ made a unifying identity possible, one that supersedes, but does not destroy, all other distinctions, “as the truth is in Jesus, put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life… to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness” (Ephesians 4: 22-24). Worshipers of God find oneness in Christ.

Can you see yourself as part of the diverse throng surrounding God’s throne? You can experience harmony in worship with other believers today! Pray for churches in the United States to work towards godly harmony amongst those who claim the saving name of Jesus Christ. Ask that those in political authority would unite their hearts with the Lord as well.

Today’s Verse:  Psalm 86:9

All the nations you have made shall come
and worship before you, O Lord,
    and shall glorify your name.

20 As it is, there are many parts, yet one body.

21 The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” 22 On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23 and on those parts of the body that we think less honorable we bestow the greater honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty, 24 which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, 25 that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. 26 If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together.

27 Now  you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.
