U.S.-Russia Diplomatic Ties Breaking Down

President Biden says attack on Ukraine creates “complete rupture” in political relationship.

President Biden announced more sanctions against Russia on Thursday, which were coordinated to be put in place with many other sanctions made by NATO allies at the same time. This round of U.S. sanctions targets four major Russian banks and a number of Russian elites. When asked if diplomatic discussions with Russia were still on the table, President Biden said he had no plans to do so after Russia’s attack against Ukraine on Wednesday night.

“There is a complete rupture right now in U.S.-Russia relations if they continue on this path they’re on,” President Biden said. “So it’s going to be a cold day for Russia… You don’t see a whole lot of people coming to his defense,” he said, highlighting NATO’s unity against Russia’s attack.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For discernment for the president and secretary of state as they respond to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
  • For U.S. and allied officials as they deliberate options in Eastern Europe.
  • For the leaders and citizens of Ukraine as they are in harm’s way.
