Honey for the Soul

Know that wisdom is such to your soul; if you find it, there will be a future, and your hope will not be cut off. – Proverbs 24:14

Honey is a very unique food. It is rich in antioxidants, aids digestive issues, and helps to promote burn and wound healing. It never spoils and is very sweet to taste. It was seen as almost magical in ancient times, because of its unique properties. For anything to be compared to honey during ancient times, then, was very significant.

King Solomon in the Old Testament was known as the wisest man who ever lived. His wisdom was a gift given to him directly from God. He is credited with writing several books, including the book of Proverbs. Proverbs chapter 24 describes wisdom as honey for the soul. Just as honey offers many benefits to the body, wisdom offers so many benefits to the soul. It is worth more than gold or silver and is far better than anything you can desire.

Have you experienced the sweetness of wisdom in your life? Have you cultivated your heart to appreciate wisdom? As King Solomon indicates in Proverbs 24, the journey to find wisdom may not always be the easiest, but it is well worth the effort.

Take time today to pray and thank Him for His sweet gift of wisdom. Ask God to give you additional wisdom as you learn to worship Him more deeply. As you pray, take time to lift up those in authority in the United States of America. Pray that God would draw their hearts to Him so they desire wisdom like that of Solomon to carry out their responsibilities well.

Today’s Verse: Proverbs 24:14

    if you find it, there will be a future,
    and your hope will not be cut off.

The law of the Lord is perfect,
    reviving the soul;
the testimony of the Lord is sure,
    making wise the simple;
8 the precepts of the Lord are right,
    rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the Lord is pure,
    enlightening the eyes;
9 the fear of the Lord is clean,
    enduring forever;
the rules of the Lord are true,
    and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold,
    even much fine gold;
sweeter also than honey
    and drippings of the honeycomb.
11 Moreover, by them is your servant warned;
    in keeping them there is great reward.

12 Who can discern his errors?
    Declare me innocent from hidden faults.
13 Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins;
    let them not have dominion over me!
Then I shall be blameless,
    and innocent of great transgression.

14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
    be acceptable in your sight,
    O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
